Wastewater is no longer waste; it's a source of raw materials and energy. The water treatment process creates sludge—organisms that consume waste. Excess sludge is dried and reused as a green energy source. And you? As a process engineer, you'll be at the heart of this sustainable cycle. You'll be at the helm of one of the most modern drying plants in Flanders, which contributes to the generation of 20 megawatts of energy—enough to power 5,000 homes. At Aquafin, we're not looking for ordinary technicians. We're looking for pioneers. Innovators. People who love technology and meaningful action. For our new, low-carbon sludge drying facility in Roeselare, we're looking for a completely new team of 7 process technicians to help put this innovative site on the map.
Your role
Together with your other new colleagues, you'll be involved in the startup of this brand-new facility. This isn't a routine job; you'll be involved in testing, optimizing, and fine-tuning processes.
What you do has an impact—on the climate, on water quality, and on society. You'll help ensure clean waterways and, by recycling sludge energy efficiently, contribute to Aquafin's energy transition.
You'll be responsible for the process management of the new dryer and other sludge treatment facilities in the region.
You'll conduct site visits, take samples, check measurements, and adjust process parameters where necessary.
With your technical expertise, you'll track electrical and mechanical faults and perform (preventive) maintenance. During a plant shutdown for major maintenance, your mechanical and electrical expertise will be especially valuable in getting everything up and running as quickly as possible.
You'll handle administrative follow-up and reporting to ensure the process is properly monitored. Once you've been trained, you'll be on call approximately every 6 weeks.
You'll work a 3-shift system with early and late shifts and day shifts in a 7-week cycle, with or without weekend work:
Week 1: Mon-Tue-Wed - Sat-Sun day shift and Thu-Fri rest
Week 2: Mon-Tue-Wed - Thu-Fri day shift and Sat-Sun rest
Week 3: Mon-Tue-Wed - Thu-Fri late and Sat-Sun rest
Week 4: Mon-Tue-Wed - Thu-Fri early and Sat-Sun rest
Week 5: Mon-Tue-Wed - Sat-Sun day shift and Thu-Fri rest
Week 6: Mon-Tue-Wed - Thu-Fri late and Sat-Sun rest
Week 7: Mon-Tue-Wed - Thu-Fri early and Sat-Sun rest
You have practical knowledge of industrial electricity and electromechanics and hold a category B driving license.
You are interested in water purification and sludge processing. You're looking for a job with a real impact on people and the environment.
You're eager to learn and challenge yourself, and you enjoy things moving.
You're a solution-oriented thinker, communicate fluently in Dutch, and enjoy collaborating.
You take responsibility and can work independently.
You're flexible in a three-shift system with weekend availability.
You'll work alongside your colleagues on call.
You're proficient in digital work with Microsoft 365 apps and manage your administrative processes in SAP, among other applications.
