Job Description

At Try'It, we strive to reach the absolute pinnacle of Moroccan gastronomy in Belgium. Our mission is to offer a unique culinary experience where tradition, authenticity, and innovation take center stage. Our restaurant is dedicated to preserving the rich Moroccan culinary heritage.
As a chef at Try'It, you will be responsible for the daily management of the kitchen and developing menus that remain true to traditional Moroccan culinary traditions. You will lead a team of kitchen staff and monitor the quality and authenticity of all dishes.
Your responsibilities include:
Creating seasonal and unique menus inspired by traditional Moroccan recipes such as tagines, couscous, harira, and pastilla. The menu must be innovative yet true to Moroccan cuisine.
Carefully selecting and sourcing authentic ingredients.
Managing and training kitchen staff in specific Moroccan cooking techniques, including familiarity with the use of traditional spice blends and methods such as tagine cooking and traditional stewing. Ensuring food safety standards and hygiene in accordance with Belgian law.
Managing kitchen inventory, costs, and budgets, with a focus on sustainable purchasing and minimizing food waste.
Recognizing new culinary trends within Moroccan cuisine and incorporating them into menus.
Informing guests and staff about the historical and cultural background of dishes. You are both a chef and an ambassador of Moroccan culture.
Maintaining consistent quality and top-notch cuisine, regardless of peak times or high pressure.
We are seeking a qualified chef with exceptional skill in Moroccan haute cuisine, going beyond basic knowledge.
Experience: At least 5 years of demonstrable experience as a chef, specifically in a restaurant specializing in Moroccan cuisine.
Skills: In-depth knowledge of Moroccan culinary history and its cooking techniques, spices, and preparation methods. You must be able to prepare traditional dishes as they are in Morocco, without compromising on authenticity. Menu Development: Creating recipes for dishes (ingredients, quantities, prices, etc.).
Leadership: Experience in leading and motivating kitchen teams.
Supervision: Supervising the preparation of dishes. Performing or checking the presentation and plating of plates or platters.
Language Proficiency: Fluent in Arabic and French (for communication with suppliers and customers) and sufficient command of Dutch (for legal and hygiene guidelines).
Availability: Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and evenings, with long (irregular) hours during peak periods.
Other Requirements:
Willingness to commit to long-term commitments and to contribute to the promotion of Moroccan culinary traditions.
Physical fitness to work in a demanding kitchen environment (long hours, carrying heavy groceries, fast pace, peak times, etc.). Ability to perform consistently under high pressure.
Ability to present an extensive portfolio of traditional Moroccan dishes and relevant experience. An eye for detail, a passion for culinary perfection and an excellent work ethic.
