Brief about the position
The Sámi University of Applied Sciences' Department of Language, Arts and Social Sciences is open for a professorship in Sámi language and statistics.
If there are no applicants who meet the qualification requirements for the position of professor, those who meet the qualification requirements for the position of first assistant professor may be considered for the position of first assistant professor
Job scope of the position
The main content of the position is teaching, supervision, research and dissemination in Sámi history and statistics. The teaching is based on curricula that are in force from time to time and the language of instruction is usually Northern Sámi. In addition to his own research activities
the official must promote, develop and lead research primarily in the field of Sámi research and statistics. He will be involved in the master's and PhD programs
innovation, teaching and promoting Sámi AI Lab as a research and learning environment.
He shall be at the forefront of Sámi University's expertise in statistics and statistics. It is expected that the employee will follow the Sámi profile of Sámi University College in connection with his/her work.
 
The position in the organization and scope of work may vary due to the needs of the institution.
Other duties:
Due to work responsibilities, the employee may be given responsibility for other tasks within the activities of Sámi University. Such tasks may include:
• academic management of courses and course units
• guidance and counseling in addition to regular teaching activities
• teaching and academic activities in additional training courses and other
courses/conferences
• support the social and cultural activities of the institution
• activities on the internal boards and committees of Sámi University of Applied Sciences
 
Employees in Sámi University's teaching and research positions shall actively participate in the development of new educational opportunities and participate in research activities in relation to Sámi University's profile.
Qualification Requirements
The applicant for the position of professor and first assistant professor must demonstrate knowledge and expertise in Sámi geography and statistics.
Applicants are required to have a doctorate or equivalent qualification in economics or statistics or another relevant field. An applicant for a professorship must have
extensive experience in research management, master's and PhD supervision and international research cooperation and teaching skills within the field.
The qualification requirements for the position of professor are defined in the Norwegian Ministry of Education's Regulation on the University and Higher Education Act, § 3-7 and within the Sámi University of Applied Sciences.

The qualification requirements for the position of first assistant professor are defined in § 3-6 of the same Act and in the internal regulations of Sámi University of Applied Sciences, čk. 2.5.
In order to apply for a permanent position at Sámi University, employees are required to have both oral and written knowledge of Northern Sámi, which corresponds to B2 level. If the employee does not speak Northern Sámi at the required level, he or she will have the opportunity to meet the competence requirement within three years from the date of appointment. It is expected that the employee will be fluent in Northern Sámi from the beginning in terms of communicating with students and
with colleagues. The employee must be able to speak Norwegian/Swedish/Danish at B1 level. The employee must also be fluent in oral and written English.

If the position of first assistant professor lacks teaching qualifications, it is expected that this qualification will be acquired within two years from the date of appointment, Regulation to the University and Higher Education Act § 3-9.
It is an advantage if the applicant has:
• experience in obtaining external funding for research and teaching projects
• experience in interdisciplinary research and statistics education
