Job Description

About the position
The Governor of Svalbard has a vacant fixed-term position as a legal advisor/senior advisor on the staff. The Governor's values are trust and respect. As an employee of the Governor, it is expected that these values are recognizable in all our task solving and behavior. 
Tasks
Assist the management, staff and departments in legal and principled issues in their respective fields and through the processing of individual cases and investigation and regulatory work
Process the Governor's hearing statements regarding the application of Norwegian legislation in Svalbard and the need for any special rules in this regard
Assist in following up on the Governor's vessel and helicopter contracts
Participate as a representative of the Governor in working groups or committees that investigate issues of Norwegian legislation in Svalbard
Provide guidance to other public agencies and private individuals regarding the application of Norwegian legislation in Svalbard
Assist the Governor in visiting and lecturing activities
Assist the Governor in compliance with GDPR
Qualifications
Requirements:
Law degree/Master of Laws
Solid experience from public sector
It is desirable to have:
Good written and oral formulation skills in Norwegian and English
Good knowledge of Svalbard/the High North
Good knowledge of data protection
Personal qualities
Systematic and solution-oriented
Independent and proactive with a high degree of integrity
Flexible in terms of both working hours and work tasks
Service-minded both internally and externally
Good communication and collaboration skills
Personal qualities are given particular importance. The person hired must be able to be security cleared and authorized at secret level.

Fixed-term position of 3 years with the possibility of extension for another 3 years
The position is paid according to qualifications as an advisor (NOK 650,,000) or senior advisor NOK (730,,000) gross per year
Membership in the Norwegian State Pension Fund
Good work and welfare schemes
Polar supplement (amounting to NOK 124 per day)
Svalbard tax, national insurance contribution and pension contributions currently amount to 17.6%.
Office location is in Longyearbyen, flexible working hours with the possibility of a home office
Facilitation for moving to Svalbard according to current schemes
Free housing, free car, departure and departure travel and holiday travel allowance according to current schemes

About the employer:
The Governor's administration building is located in Longyearbyen at 78 degrees north. Longyearbyen has a good range of services and a rich range of sports and cultural activities.
However, Longyearbyen is not a life-cycle community. In several areas, there are clear limits to the range of services available, and this may be lower than on the mainland. Svalbard offers magnificent nature with good opportunities for exciting experiences both in the vicinity of Longyearbyen and out in the Arctic wilderness.
