Subject description
The research area includes studies of flows through and around hydropower structures and their associated environmental impact, with a focus on hydraulic and ecological function. The investigations are carried out using advanced numerical modelling, including CFD and machine learning. The studies are also supported by experiments performed in hydropower laboratories, complemented by field measurements and monitoring from hydropower plants

Duties and responsibilities
The position involves independent research and teaching as well as project management. The Associate Professor is expected to develop KTH's research, apply for research funding and lead research projects. The research will partly be linked to SVC - Swedish Centre for Sustainable Hydropower and the Associate Professor will interact with both industry stakeholders and KTH's academic environments in the subject area. Teaching will be at undergraduate and graduate level, and also include supervision and teaching in the doctoral programme. The Associate Professor is expected to teach in Swedish within four years. If necessary, a language plan will be drawn up to support the appointment.

The associate senior lecturer will be given the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and gain qualifications that may qualify them for another teaching position for which higher qualification requirements apply (see Chapter 4, Section 12a of the Higher Education Ordinance). The associate senior lecturer may apply for promotion to senior lecturer in accordance with Chapter 4, Section 12c of the Higher Education Ordinance.

Eligibility
A person who has completed a doctoral degree or has equivalent academic competence is eligible for employment as an associate senior lecturer. Preference should be given to those who have completed a doctoral degree or have attained equivalent competence no more than seven years before the deadline for applying for the position of associate senior lecturer. However, those who have obtained a doctorate or equivalent qualification earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons refer to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave or other similar circumstances.

Assessment criteria
The assessment criteria for employment as an Associate Senior Lecturer at KTH are those set out in section 1.3 of KTH's employment regulations in relation to the established employment profile.

It is of the utmost importance that the applicant has demonstrated
scientific expertise demonstrated through scientific publications, conference participation, participation in research collaborations and other commitments in the scientific community such as review or expert assignments. potential for merit for higher teaching positions. This includes the potential for independent development as a researcher and teacher in the relevant subject area and the ability to establish, renew and develop the relevant research area.

It is of the utmost importance that the applicant has demonstrated
interest in and insight into pedagogical development in the subject area in question interest in and insight into leadership in academia, collaboration with the surrounding society, and awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality administrative skills.

It is also important that the applicant has demonstrated
experience of postdoctoral work in a research environment other than the institution where the applicant obtained his/her doctorate. Experience from research and development work in industry or other organisations may be considered equivalent to a traditional postdoctoral stay at another higher education institution.

Specific assessment criteria for promotion to Associate Professor

When assessing the application for promotion to senior lecturer, the provisions of 1.2.4 in KTH's Employment Regulations will be applied. The ability to teach in Swedish is a merit that is given great weight when applying for promotion.

Fixed-term appointment: The appointment is for an indefinite period, but no longer than six years, and may be renewed if, due to the teacher's sick leave, parental leave or other special reasons, additional time is required to fulfil the purpose of the appointment. However, the total period of employment may not exceed eight years. The position is part of the Tenure Track system at KTH and the Associate Professor shall, upon application, be considered for promotion to Senior Lecturer.
