Unfortunately, more and more people are experiencing financial difficulties. To help them, we are looking for two social workers or budget and debt counselors. You will handle files related to budgets and debts, help clients become more independent, and check whether they are utilizing their rights and benefits. What will you do?

You will handle files related to debt mediation, budget counseling, budget management, and collective debt settlement. You will meet clients at the office or through home visits. You will register them in the e-Vita system.
You will help clients maximize income and inventory debts and fixed costs.
You will help clients gather supporting documents for debts. After investigating the validity of the debts, you will create a repayment plan for valid debts and dispute unfounded claims.
You will check whether clients are effectively utilizing their rights and benefits. For example, social security, housing, education, and employment.
You focus on providing integrated, tailored support to your clients. You consult with colleagues involved in their case. You refer clients to specialized services or support services where necessary.
You help clients become more independent and guide them in their development.
You submit applications for the energy fund, the Jovel Fund, the child poverty fund, the eviction protection fund, and more.
You contribute constructively to ideas on how we can improve our services.
You will take turns handling the intake for the debt counseling service and the evening opening.

More about your team

We are looking for two flexible counselors or social workers. The work locations are the Deurne-Expo social center and the De Vondel social center. One of these locations will be your permanent work location, but you are expected to be able to move easily around the city and help colleagues.

You can work as a social worker or as a counselor. As a social worker, you need one of these diplomas:
Bachelor's degree in Social Work
Master's degree in Social Work
Master's degree in Social Work and Social Policy
Master's degree in Educational Sciences, specializing in Orthopedagogy
Master's degree in Educational Sciences
Bachelor's degree in Social Work with the title of Social Worker, or an equivalent diploma
Bachelor's degree in Orthopedagogy
Bachelor's degree in Social Re-adaptation Sciences
Bachelor's degree in Family Sciences
Or you have one of these older diplomas:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing, specializing in Social Nursing, or an equivalent diploma
Bachelor's degree in Social Health Care, or an equivalent diploma
Social Worker diploma, awarded in short-cycle higher social education or single-cycle higher education, specializing in social work, or foreign diplomas deemed equivalent to a Social Worker diploma
Graduate nursing diploma, specializing in community health
Social Worker diploma with the title of graduate in social nursing, which belongs to the former short-type paramedical higher education.
As a counselor, you need one of the following diplomas: a master's degree in law or a bachelor's degree in legal practice.
The city requires proof of equivalence for a foreign diploma. Request a specific proof of equivalence through NARIC-Vlaanderen.
Final-year students studying for one of the above diplomas may also participate in the selection process. You can then start once you have obtained your diploma, no later than September 15, 2026.
You meet the application requirements of the city of Antwerp.
In this job, you are neutral, as you have direct contact with clients. Therefore, we do not wear external symbols of philosophical, religious, political, or other beliefs in these positions.
You want to familiarize yourself with debt counseling: debt mediation, budget counseling, budget management, and collective debt settlement.
You are administratively accurate.
You are proficient in applications. You have good knowledge of Excel. Knowledge of e-Vita is a plus. You can build trusting relationships, are empathetic, and know conversational techniques. You can develop a resilient attitude.
